The 15th Police District and faith leaders will host several community events throughout the summer in an effort to reduce violence.
The 15th Police District has a new acting commander: Andre Parham. The 24-year department veteran replaces Patrina Wines, who’s been promoted to deputy chief of Area 4.
Dozens of West Side residents gathered to commemorate Nelson Mandela and call for economic empowerment in Austin.
While fewer people are illegally gathering than before, 15th District Commander Yolanda Talley says residents must stop congregating outside. “People in our community need to take this a lot more seriously,” Talley said of the state’s nearly 3-week-old, stay-at-home order.
All West Side stakeholders are invited to the meet and greet with 15th District Commander Yolanda Talley 9 a.m. Dec. 9 at Sankofa Cultural Arts & Business Center, 5820 W. Chicago Ave. Breakfast will be served.
West Side residents who attended the meeting were asked two questions: What are the key problems that you would like police to address, and how would you like the police to engage more with the community? Another community conversation to discuss the strategic plan the Chicago Police Department is developing will be held Nov. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zoe Life Ministries, 3 S. Laramie Ave.
Bring your lawn chairs tonight to Moore Park, 5055 W. Adams, to take a stand against crime in your neighborhood. The annual event, sponsored by the 15th Police District, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Mayor Lori Lightfoot is expected to stop by tonight’s event.
The Westside Health Authority’s Good Neighbor Campaign honored the work being done by first responders and teachers. In all, five teachers and two first responders were celebrated at the May 14th event.
Churches, community groups and law enforcement need to focus on collaboration and increasing participation at various events, West Siders said at a meeting held last week at the 15th District Police station.
