Seven years ago, the space across the street from Patricia and Robert Hart’s house in the 600 block of North Latrobe Avenue was a literal dump. Now, with help from the group Human Scale, they’ve turned it into an accessible community garden. Next year, they will turn half the pergola into a greenhouse, and the other half into a workshop where events and classes about gardening and healthy eating can be hosted.
Participants were encouraged to complete the 2020 census, which a judge recently extended until the end of October. It can be completed online, by calling a toll-free line or by mailing back the paper questionnaire. There is no citizenship question on the census, and all information is kept confidential.

Ride for peace Friday night and Sunday morning in two separate events. Friday’s ride begins at 8 p.m. at 819 N. Leamington, while Sunday’s ride starts at 9 a.m. at Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave.
A fitness group is offering free classes to men in Columbus Park. The 45-minute sessions are held on Monday mornings beginning at 5:30 a.m.
After her teenage son was shot to death in Austin, Sharita Galloway embarked on a complicated claim submission process that took two years to resolve. She and others hope other families have an easier, less traumatic time getting help from the attorney general’s office, which operates the fund.
City officials say the dedicated, temporary bus lanes will improve
reliability and make social distancing easier for CTA customers. The lanes will be installed on 4.6 miles on Chicago Avenue, from Laramie to Ashland.
