Austin Coming Together wants input from West Side residents and others who travel through Austin. The responses will be incorporated into an action plan as Central Avenue is re-envisioned.
Students and parents ride CTA, Metra and PACE on Aug. 21 – the first day of classes at Chicago Pubic Schools. Reduce fares are available on all three transit systems the rest of the school year.
Ald. Emma Mitts, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other city officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony held this week – on the three-year anniversary of the city’s INVEST South/West plan.
Applications are being accepted from eligible Chicagoans through Aug. 4th. The Chicago Department of Transportation will begin distributing bikes in August to residents participating this year in the Green Corps, Learn to Ride and Open Boulevard events.
The Central Green line station is one of nearly 30 CTA stations across the city that will be repaired and improved this year. The work is being done as part of the CTA’s 3-year-old “refresh and renew” program.
Local elected officials and the Chicago Department of Transportation will hold a virtual meeting March 1 to discuss next steps with the project to improve Chicago Avenue from Austin Boulevard to Cicero Avenue.
Watch for the CTA’s holiday train and bus, which will be traveling throughout the city in coming weeks. The tradition – in its 30th year – is sponsored by Allstate. The holiday train will be traveling through Austin on Nov. 30, and Dec. 16-18. The holiday bus will be in Austin Dec. 7-9.
City transportation officials are asking West Side residents to complete a 16-question survey about improvements being made to Chicago Avenue, from Austin Boulevard to Cicero Avenue. The deadline to give input on the survey is Sept. 22.
City officials recently briefed West Side residents on the $21 million Austin corridor improvement project. The goal of the project, which covers Chicago Avenue from Austin Boulevard to Cicero Avenue, is to provide a safe, walkable and attractive street that will foster community and economic growth.
A total of 20 Divvy stations are planned for North Austin and West Humboldt Park, building off the existing network in South Austin that was installed in 2016. The Chicago Department of Transportation is seeking input as it decides on the new locations.
