A West Side couple who raise goats at home organized the gathering, held at the Root-Riot Harambee garden, nestled between Austin Town Hall and Frederick Douglass Academy High School.
The first-term alderman easily defeated state Rep. La Shawn Ford in last month’s primary.
At a recent community meeting, 29th Ward residents weighed in on their favorites, which will be paid for with “menu money.”
Teachers and students from Austin High School took to the streets April 1 as part of the citywide Chicago Teachers Union’s day of protest.
Several West Side sites will be open April 1 when the Chicago Teachers Union has planned an all-day walkout.
The 7th District congressman easily won the March 15 primary and is poised to serve another two-year term.
Audience members were reminded that the quest for equality continues as they watched earlier this month the performance “Of Quiet Birds.”
The community continues to work on how to build trust and improve relations between Austin residents and the Chicago Police Department.
