A high school junior is creating more space in the chess community for young girls with her nonprofit, The Chess Queens. Girls from kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to participate in free virtual classes.

State Rep. La Shawn Ford will be hosting the Dr. Charles Drew annual blood drive June 24 from 12 to 5 p.m. at the American Red Cross Rauner Center, 2200 W. Harrison St. For an appointment, call 800-RED-CROSS. All donations will be tested for sickle cell trait and COVID-19 antibodies.

Taste the Town is happening this week in Austin
