Good Neighbors will hold the meeting at 2 p.m. July 18 at 5437 W. Division St. State Rep. La Shawn Ford will be there to discuss how those affected by the July 2 flooding can get help.
State Rep. La Shawn Ford reminds us that every family has someone who has struggled with addiction and substance use disorder. “We are in this together.” Meeting someone where they are at means bridging the gap between your own expectations and where the other person is coming from.
There are programs available in Austin for people who want to continue treatment or seek help for the first time. Austin native Jerome McNutt, who’s been sober for 19 months, says he’s taking things one day at a time and encourages others to do the same. “This is a good time to get your life right.”
State Rep. La Shawn Ford and Congressman Danny Davis brought together representatives from a number of groups fighting the opioid epidemic on the West Side.
The organization – which has provided a temporary home to women recovering from substance abuse for more than 30 years – moved late last year from Austin to Oak Park.
The Loretto Hospital and state Rep. La Shawn Ford will be commemorating the civil rights leader at an event that celebrates life before, during and after recovery. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 21 in the hospital’s sixth floor auditorium at 645 S. Central Ave.
Several residents share the stories of friends and loved ones who’ve struggled with drug addiction.
The violence prevention program held an advocacy luncheon Wednesday, with students, residents and community leaders, to reflect on its first year working with Austin youth.
