New Austin community hub celebrated

Nearly 200 groups across Chicago are providing community-based mental health services in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health.
Ald. Emma Mitts, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other city officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony held this week – on the three-year anniversary of the city’s INVEST South/West plan.
Johnson is backed by the Chicago Teachers Union and United Working Families. He is the ninth candidate to join the race to challenge incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the Feb. 28th primary.
West Siders said they want to see homeownership, mental health and climate change prioritized in the city’s 2023 budget. A final public engagement session will be held this weekend.

The mayor and other city officials shared their plans to address the root causes of violence at a West Side public safety town hall meeting held recently. It’s one of six town halls being held across the city in March and April.
One of the six virtual meetings will be held specifically for West Side residents. That meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10. Participants are encouraged to register in advance.
