One longtime Austin resident celebrates the fact that five young men in his family have graduated from college and extols others to not let their children succumb to the bigotry of low expectations.
Since 2013, more than 70 have graduated from the program, run by Bethel New Life in partnership with World Business Chicago’s 1000 Jobs for Chicagoland and The Technology & Manufacturing Association.
The Sept. 29 “Break the School-to-Prison Pipeline” event united residents citywide to speak out against practices that take students out of school.
Food, games and entertainment will be provided.
More than 100 Austin students participate in the Stay in School initiative, a collaboration between Exelon, ComEd and United Way.
