West Side credit union one step closer to opening

Austin residents may soon – possibly within in six months – be able to bank at a new West Side credit union that’s being pushed by the Leaders Network.
Members of the Leaders Network discussed the challenges and responsibilities of the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with its new chief, Andrea Kersten.
The Leaders Network reported this week that $155,940 has been raised in less than a year. The group of faith-based leaders is still accepting donations.
The Leaders Network is still seeking donation as the group works to reach its fundraising goal of $150,000. The aim is to have a credit union up and running in 2022.
The Leaders Network received its largest donation toward its credit union fundraising campaign. So far, the group has raised $62,000 out of $150,000 that is needed to launch a credit union on the West Side.
West Side faith and community leaders have raised $43,850 of $150,000 seed money needed to get a match from philanthropic groups. The Leaders Network is asking others to join the founders circle and commit to making a $5,000 contribution.
The Leaders Network hopes to raise $300,000 to open a credit union on the West Side, with the goal of giving residents more economic stability and opportunity.
