It’s not too late to participate in the eighth annual walk/run that’s held i the heart of Austin. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
Friday, Sept. 1 is the early bird registration deadline for runners and walkers wanting to participate in the Austin POWER 5k. This year’s event will be held Sept. 16 and start at Chicago and Mayfield.
The first Columbus Park event of the ‘Go Run series will be held at 9 a.m. March 5. Participants may choose from either a 1 mile or 3.1 mile course. The series is organized by the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Area Runners Association. Register this week, before the event.
The first-place male finisher was Maxwell Crawford, 21, with a time of 19:12, while Lacey Fournier, 39, was the first-place female finisher, with a time of 22:24. Organizers will soon begin planning the sixth annual Austin POWER 5K.
Registration is still open for Saturday’s race – the fifth annual – and organizers hope to surpass 700 participants. Walkers and runners can register in person on Friday at 5840 W. Chicago Ave. until 5 p.m. and on race day beginning at 7 a.m. Loretto Hospital and Ald. Chris Taliaferro’s office are among the groups and businesses that will be fielding teams.
Organizers hope at least 700 people will participate in the fifth annual event, which kicks off in the heart of Austin the morning of Sept. 28. Registration is $35 per person, or $300 for a team of 10.
You can register online for the Sept. 22 event or on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $35 per person or $300 per team. The run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at Chicago and Mayfield avenues. Austin P.O.W.E.R of Life is sponsoring the annual event.

More than 200 people participated in last weekend’s Austin P.O.W.E.R. event, which celebrated the West Side and all it has to offer.
There was a big turnout last weekend for the pre-Austin POWER 5k walk/run at the Columbus Park Refectory; it was the kickoff for the September event.
