State Rep. La Shawn Ford will announce the formation of the West Side Behavioral Health Task Force on Monday. Joining Ford will be the heads of The Loretto Hospital, the Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center and Habilitative Systems Inc.
All Austin residents are invited to the community summit, where updates will be given on Austin’s quality-of-life plan. Celebrate the victories and investments, and discover how you can get involved. The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 14 at Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd.
The donadtion – the largest corporate gift in United Way of Metro Chicago’s history – will be used to help implement Austin’s quality of life plan and to support social service infrastructure and development in the city’s most-populated community area. The investment was announced last week at an event hosted by Mayor Lori Lightfoot and attended by several local elected officials.
Monday’s push for more local, state and federal funding comes just a few days after Austin Congressman Danny K. Davis’ teenage grandson was buried. He is one of the 700-some people killed in Chicago so far this year.
West Side residents, leaders who met last week at the 15th District police headquarters said city officials have to get serious about economic development or residents will continue to flock to Oak Park to eat, shop.
