One of the experts featured in “FIRSTHAND: Gun Violence” is Jermaine Harris, a community policing sergeant in the Chicago Department’s 15th District, who talks about using social justice as a means of supporting the Austin community. The series launches Nov. 12 on WTTW.
Saturday’s event at Hope Community Church netted 65 firearms. So far this year, 458 weapons have been collected in this way by the Chicago Police Department.
The back-to-school celebration runs from 2 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29th at 5701 W. Madison. There will be giveaways, physicals and haircuts, food and more.
