Students and parents ride CTA, Metra and PACE on Aug. 21 – the first day of classes at Chicago Pubic Schools. Reduce fares are available on all three transit systems the rest of the school year.
Watch for the CTA’s holiday train and bus, which will be traveling throughout the city in coming weeks. The tradition – in its 30th year – is sponsored by Allstate. The holiday train will be traveling through Austin on Nov. 30, and Dec. 16-18. The holiday bus will be in Austin Dec. 7-9.
Both the two-dose Pfizer and one-dose Johnson & Johnson shots will be offered inside the 40-foot CTA bus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at 5070 W. Adams. Anyone who wants to get vaccinated can walk up that day, and the vaccines are available to all, not just Austin residents. You must be 16 or older, and minors must have a guardian with them to be vaccinated.
City officials say the dedicated, temporary bus lanes will improve
reliability and make social distancing easier for CTA customers. The lanes will be installed on 4.6 miles on Chicago Avenue, from Laramie to Ashland.
The Madison Avenue (#20) bus is one of eight city routes piloting new digital information screens, and the Chicago Avenue (#66) bus is part of the city’s transit development policy targeting certain parts of Chicago.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is considering 10 options that would widen the section of the Eisenhower Expressway through Austin. Residents still have time to submit feedback.
Fresh Moves will operate the city’s first mobile produce stand catering exclusively to Austin and North Lawndale. The bus will be stopping Thursday at Spencer Elementary.
Chicago Transit Authority officials say there will be no fare increases and bus routes won’t be eliminated in 2011. Another public hearing on the new budget will be held Tuesday at CTA headquarters, 567 W. Lake St.
