West Side residents can enjoy a night of spoken word performances, fashion and food at this free event hosted at a family home in Austin on Sept. 10th.
Markell “Kell-O-G” Mooney, spoken word poet and founder of Word Life Productions, started the patio shows at his family’s home in the 5100 block of West Concord Place in March 2003 after the death of his father, Willie E. Mooney Sr.
The show – the last of the summer – will be held at 5156 W. Concord Place. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show begins at 8:30 p.m. Performers should arrive early. There will be an open mic sign up.
The 16th annual outdoor spoken word showcase will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight July 21 at 5156 W. Concord Place. There will be free food and an open mic. Kell-O-G is the host.
On Saturday at the Chicago Public Library’s West Chicago Avenue branch, Markell Mooney read from his recently published collection of poems, Words of Life.
All are invited to the event, organized by Austin artist Markell Mooney. It will take place at 5156 W. Concord Place at 7:30 p.m. July 8.
Dozens of Chicago area high school students participated with support from the Westside Branch of the NAACP.
The application deadline for NEIU’s Beyond the Bell, B.L.A.S.T. and JumpStart programs is June 13.
Poets, singers, chimes and more will be featured during the series of free events.
There are just two more spoken word events left of the summer season.
