It will be January before West Side residents know who they can vote for in the 28th, 29th and 37th Ward races. A record number of candidate objections has delayed the work of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
Alice Gaskin shared her story of hard work and determination at a dinner earlier this month for participants in the Chosen Women for Destiny program, sponsored by Sistas of the Hood and Sankofa Community Outreach and Restoration.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissions will continue this week to make decisions about which 28th and 29th Ward candidates are eligible for the election.

Incumbent Ald. Emma Mitts faces one challenger from the 2007 election and four new candidates. The deadline to challenge petitions – and possibly knock someone off the Feb. 22 ballot – is Nov. 30.
