Austin state Rep. La Shawn Ford and dozens of others gathered last week to discuss the recently proposed legislation, which faces several hurdles.
About 30 West Side Chicago and Oak Park residents discussed the issue after the event aired on CNN.
The Illinois state representative is due to be arraigned in court Tuesday morning. Some West Side residents say they don’t believe he’s guilty of the 17 counts of bank fraud against him.
The emergency meeting, hosted by Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep High School, 5088 W. Jackson Blvd.
The school’s location and course offerings are expected to be announced by fall 2013.
