Registration ends Feb. 28 to receive the meal kits, which will be distributed every week in March. Families will be able to pick up the kits at one of six YMCA locations or have the kits delivered to their home.
EATS Groceries hopes to open a store on Madison Street, after years of exploring possible sites across the West Side. Meanwhile, Forty Acres Fresh Market continues to make progress on its building on Chicago Avenue.
There are several locations on the West Side providing COVID-19 shots and boosters at no cost.
The screenings are available through the end of March for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. The screenings will look for a number of conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis and dry eye.
Stop by 5713 N. Chicago Ave. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be fresh produce, meat, baked goods and more.
Stop by the Soul City community market – powered by Austin Fresh! – on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5713 W. Chicago Ave.
Later this month, patrons at 14 branches across the city will be able to get a free Narcan kit. The Austin locations are at 5615 W. Race Ave., 5724 W. North Ave. and 4856 W. Chicago Ave.
A community vaccination event will be held Jan. 22 at the 15th Police District.
Chicago health officials announced Thursday that there were 5,216 confirmed cases of COVID in the city, the most detected in a 24-hour period. Residents are being urged to get vaccinated, wear their masks and get tested, especially before and after holiday gatherings.
Young people on the West Side who get care at Erie Family Health and students attending Nash Elementary School and Spencer Technology Academy will benefit. The new funding will help more youth receive dental services at a clinic in Humboldt Park and provide water botter-filling stations at the two Austin schools.
