She says challenger, U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis, can’t do the job from his office in Washington, but she’ll be working daily with residents on the West Side.
The March 20 election for committeeman could increase the congressman’s power and provide greater protection for his current position if he defeats the alderman.
U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis and other candidates running for election must settle up if they want their names to appear on the March 20th ballot.
The former three-term alderman will return to the Chicago City Council in mid-May, along with many other new members.
Voters will choose between Ald. Sharon Dixon and challenger Michael Chandler. Polls close at 7 p.m.
Michael Chandler hopes to regain his seat in Tuesday’s runoff. He wants another shot at representing South Austin and Lawndale.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners said the issues they learned about were not out of the ordinary. Officials will be taking calls again April 5 when the runoff in the 24th Ward takes place.
The ballot has been narrowed from 18 candidates to two. The current alderman, Sharon Dixon, faces Michael Chandler, who used to represent the area.
West Side voters backed recently appointed Alds. Jason Ervin and Deborah Graham, and reelected Ald. Emma Mitts.
