Three organizations doing work in Austin – A Long Walk Home, Chicago Freedom School, and Communities United-Voices of Youth in Chicago (VOYCE) – will participate in the June 1 event at Columbia College Chicago. The organizations, which are supported by the Bright Promises Foundation, will compete for a $10,000 grant.
Five teens were awarded college scholarships by a panel of judges in BUILD Chicago’s 14th annual speech contest.
Compete in the steppin’ dance off from 2 to 5 p.m. July 29. Winners will compete Aug. 26 against other city dancers at Millennium Park.
Auditions being held April 13 at the Austin Town Hall for 6- to 12-year-olds and April 14 for 13- to 18-year-olds.
Admission is free to the Oct. 1 event, which begins at 4 p.m. and will be held at Greater Holy Temple Ministries at 5906-10 W. Chicago Ave.
This year’s 7th district congressional contest showcased an array of work produced by high school students from Chicago’s West Side and nearby suburbs.
More than 40 high school students from Illinois’ 7th Congressional District are vying for the right to have their works displayed at the U.S. Capitol for the next year.
Final Explosion is still collecting donations from the public as it gets ready for the April 30th contest.
