The Austin Green Team’s summer movie series continues Tuesday, July 30 at 168 N. Laramie. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and non-alcoholic drinks. Snacks will be provided. And don’t miss the garden tour 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at Laramie and Maypole.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 20 from 5900 to 5930 W. End Street. There will be a pop-up art gallery, peace garden, music and free refreshments. Sponsors include the Chicago Art Austin Council, Revelopment Management Resources, The Field Foundation, Central Austin Neighborhood Association, Third Unitarian Church, and Chicago Safe and Peaceful Communities.
The Westside Health Authority along with its sponsors will be hosting its annual community playstreets event today from 3 to 6 p.m. at 5000 W. Van Buren. There will be music, food and a moon bounce.
The public is invited to celebrate the Nobel Peace Prize winner and first president of post-apartheid South Africa Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. Mandela died in 2013.
Fifteen Austin businesses have been awarded grant money by the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund since 2017.
Resita Cox and Keith Kelley asked a group of Chicagoans who gathered recently at The Lab, 3450 W. Lake St., to answer the question: What does the West Side mean to you? See what they had to say. Some of what was shared will be incorporated into a documentary titled “Regrowth” that Cox is making.
The free event will be held from 12 to 9 p.m. June 28th and 29th on Harrison Street between Laramie and Lavergne. There will be live entertainment, food, climbing wall and more at this weekend’s celebration, which is being put on by BUILD Chicago.
The annual community play streets event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 28 from 5400 W. Division to 1130 N. Long. There will be a bounce house, basketball, fresh produce sale, food and more.
The next event will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Laramie and Washington. All are welcome!
Divvy donated 70 bikes to seniors of Michele Clark Academic Prep Magnet High School for their second annual ride to eight nearby elementary schools.
