Celebrate end of Kwanzaa on Saturday

Saturday, Dec. 31 is the deadline to apply for a one-time, $500 payment from the Chicago Resiliency Fund.
Register to work out at one of the Chicago Park District’s fitness centers. West Side locations incluce Amundsen, Columbus, Garfield and La Follette parks.
Celebrate Kwanzaa Tuesday at Malcolm X College’s annual celebration. All are welcome to the free event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m
The deadline to submit names is Jan 6 or earlier if the city receives 20,000 submissions. Fifty finalists will be selected, and residents will be able to vote for up to six names by Jan. 31.
Several of the candidates running in the 15th and 25th Police Districts shared at a forum held last weekend why they’re running for the newly created seats. Voters will be able to select three people to serve on the police District Council in their area.
Two Illinois Black Panthers who lived on the West Side in the 1970s shared their experiences and the impact of the party.
The city’s six warming centers – including one on the West Side – are open. The Garfield Center site, at 10 S. Kedzie Ave., is the only one open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Seniors are also welcome at one of the city’s 21 senior centers, including the Austin Satellite Senior Center at 5071 W. Congress.
Stop by Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 17 for a hot meal, toys and more.
