West Side schools in the state’s largest district will see fewer teachers, staff in September when classes begin, warn community activists and others.
The West Side nonprofit is among 32 groups nationwide receiving money from the U.S. Department of Labor to continue to provide job training and other services to former inmates looking for a job.
The West Side Historical Preservation Society is considering a location at Madison and Lavergne for a multi-purpose facility that will honor the area’s people and history.
Wednesday’s gathering at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church is the first of four “state of emergency” tours planned by Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin.
The Art Xellence Pilot Summer Program, the Dream Investment Project, and Lunch N Learn are among 71 projects across Chicago to receive a total of $135,500 grants from The Chicago Community Trust.
The seven – all located along Chicago Avenue, the “Soul City Corridor” – are receiving more than $558,000 out of $5 million being distributed citywide under the new Retail Thrive Zone program.
All are invited to the event, organized by Austin artist Markell Mooney. It will take place at 5156 W. Concord Place at 7:30 p.m. July 8.
