The march will kick off at 10 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Chicago Avenue. Ald. Emma Mitts, Congressman Danny Davis and Chicago Police Supt. David Brown will lead the march.
Stop by the Austin City Market at Austin Town Hall Park, 5610 W. Lake St., from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the summer. Support our local businesses and eat healthy.
Residents from Austin, Garfield Park, West Humboldt Park and North Lawndale are invited to take part in the July 17th peace walk, which starts at 10 a.m. The walk will end at Garfield Park Music Court at Madison and Hamlin with a celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Celebrate the birthday of peacemaker Nelson Mandela from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16 at 5300 W. Chicago Ave. Two community leaders – Chicago Police Sgt. Jermaine Harris and state Sen. Kim Lightford – will be honored. Friday’s celebration is sponsored by state Rep. La Shawn Ford, the Westside Health Authority and SSA 72.
Shots will be administered on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 15 at the West Side high school. Students, their relatives and community members may register in advance, and walk-ins are also being accepted for the free vaccines. The two-dose Pfizer vaccine is the only one currently approved for individuals ages 12 to 17. A parent or guardian is required to be present for anyone under 18. Students 18 and older are also eligible for the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Stop by Austin Town Hall, 5610 W. Lake St., July 8 from noon to 7 p.m. There will be food vendors, food trucks and house music. Vendors include Ms. Tittles Cupcakes, Doom Street Eats, Caryolyn’s Krisps, Tatas Tacos, Mary Jane Cafe, Yum Dum and Robinson’s No. 1 Ribs.
The summer celebration will be held on Fridays from 4 to 9 p.m. at 5500 W. Madison St. There will be free games, food, drinks and more. Sponsored by the Westside Health Authority’s Good Neighbor Campaign.
Stop by La Follette Park, 1333 N. Laramie, from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 26. There will be music, resources, snacks, prayer and family games. Sponsors include the 25th District Office of Community Policing, Chicago CRED and 100 Blocks/100 Churches.
