Fannie Lou Hammer’s life will be depicted at a 6 p.m. Oct. 1 performance in Austin. Featuring Chicago actor and singer E. Faye Butler, the free, socially-distanced event – put on by Goodman Theatre – is one of nine being held at Chicago parks this fall.
Groceries will be distributed – while supplies last – from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept 26 at Helping Hand M.B. Church, 538 N. Lavergne Ave. PPE also will be available. Walk or drive up.
Stop by the 29th Ward Veteran’s Peace Garden at 5413 W. Madison St. from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to get tested.Seasonal flu shots and blood pressure checks also will be available, and fresh produce, bottled water, toilet paper, soap and face masks will be distributed.
Ride for peace Friday night and Sunday morning in two separate events. Friday’s ride begins at 8 p.m. at 819 N. Leamington, while Sunday’s ride starts at 9 a.m. at Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave.
City officials say the dedicated, temporary bus lanes will improve
reliability and make social distancing easier for CTA customers. The lanes will be installed on 4.6 miles on Chicago Avenue, from Laramie to Ashland.
Registrations are still being accepted for the Sept. 27th bike ride, which begins at Columbus Park. Riders will travel 13 miles through Chicago, Oak Park, Forest Park and Maywood. The Chicago Police Department will ride along and provide vehicle escort.
The Austin peace ride will take place Sept. 19. Meet at the BUILD Chicago office at 5100 W. Harrison St. at 9 a.m.; the ride begins at 10 a.m. Water and light snacks will be provided. Bring your bike; a limited number of Divvy bikes will be available.
Testing will be done from 12 to 4 p.m. at 1333 N. Laramie Ave. Free masks, hand sanitizer and youth bike helmets also will be available.
The virtual session will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 and hosted by Darlene Hightower. The event is sponsored by Rush’s office of community health equity and engagement. Email ahead of time to get participant password.
