Another neighborhood school tests positive for lead

The devices that tested high have been turned off at three Austin schools – Ella Flagg Young, Lewis and Spencer. Other West Side schools must still be tested.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and city officials will be making presentations at the March 10 event, sponsored by Ald. Chris Taliaferro and Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin.
Organizers of the event, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Truth & Deliverance International Ministries at 3 S. Laramie, hope to build excitement about the new school year and encourage everyone to stay safe.
Law-enforcement agencies will be doing roadside checks throughout the weekend.
Teens yearn for some freedom this summer, but their concerned parents keep them close.
Build Inc. is sponsoring the 2-hour event, which starts at 7 p.m.
The Chicago Police Department will show residents how to use its web site to stay safe. If you can’t make it this weekend, another class will be offered March 29.
The first 50 participants to register for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago’s Team Firestopper program will receive free equipment.
The free event will be held at Ella Flagg Young School, 1434 N. Parkside, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It targets teen boys and men from 14 to 30.
Four to 9-year-olds and their parents are invited to attend the celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
