Fire safety fair to be held at Columbus Park

The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago’s Team Firestopper Program will be holding a fire safety fair in Austin Saturday, Dec. 14 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Columbus Park.

Team Firestopper is an educational and interactive program that aims to help prevent and mitigate fires in fire-prone communities by providing participants with fire safety information, resources and equipment – all at no cost.

The first 50 participants to register will receive a kit with a smoke detector, carbon monoxide alarm, surge suppressor, fire extinguisher and more.

The program addresses the following topics in detail:

·how to create a written emergency escape plan tailored to your home

·how to create a three-day supply disaster kit with basic and customizable items

·how to use a fire extinguisher, smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, surge suppressor and window insulation film

·how to perform citizen (hands-only) CPR

·guidelines on identifying home hazards and easy, effective solutions
