This year’s 100 Blocks & 100 Churches ended a month of prayer with a unity chain as West Side residents continue their fight against violence.
The 15th and 11th Police Districts host their 2nd annual 100 blocks/100 churches grand finale from 6 to 7. The unity chain comes at the end of a month of prayer and speaking out against violence on the West Side.
Starting tonight, residents in the 11th and 15th Police Districts will stand on street corners in June as part of the 100 Blocks & 100 Churches initiative.
Nearly 50 people participated in the event organized by Greater St. John Bible Church.
The event, sponsored by two Christian Science churches, will feature Ron Ballard.
Since mid-August, Lauren Shine has gone to the corner twice each day. The Chicago Tribune’s Barbara Brotman introduces us to Shine and her public talks with God.
Scores of West Side residents turned out last week to celebrate the end of a month-long campaign to pray on 100 corners throughout Austin. Watch the celebration.
The next vigil will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the corner of Laramie and Division.
