On Aug. 16, Lauren Shine says, the Lord spoke to her at the corner of Augusta Boulevard and Menard Avenue.
She was waiting outside her apartment for the van that would take her to the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education, where she takes classes for people with vision impairment; Shine lost her sight to diabetes 17 months ago.
A neighbor, knowing her to be a churchgoing woman, had just asked her to pray for her grandson. So as Shine waited, she whispered a prayer.
Then, Shine says, she heard God speak. He told her to open her mouth and pray out loud.
Ever since, twice a day on that street corner, she has done so.
