Psilocybin, or “magic mushrooms,” could be used under supervision in Illinois to treat mental illnesses and decriminalize the drug in medical settings. State Rep. La Shawn Ford is leading the effort.
An open meeting on mental health, drug reform and human rights will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. March 27 at University of Illinois at Chicago.
BUILD Chicago’s new 10,000-square-foot campus will be officially open to the public in May, with youth programs starting this month. The hub is located at BUILD’s Austin site at 5100 W. Harrison St.
Nearly 200 groups across Chicago are providing community-based mental health services in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health.
Panelists will discuss over Zoom topics centered around mental health, including grief and how to receive trauma-informed, culturally relevant care. The one-hour event will be held Feb. 22.
The public is invited to a community resource that will focus on mental health from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 2. Earlier in the day, high school students will be able to privately hear from guest speakers and engage in interactive classes.
There are a number of mental health resources available to Austin residents, with more soon available. PCC Community Wellness Center started construction of a new pavilion to further address mental health, and Thresholds will be opening a clinic later this summer.
The city will be offering a series of trainings this summer in Austin an 14 other neighborhoods to help local stakeholders strengthen their trauma-informed mental health skills.
