A “no shave” in November event will bring men together to talk about their health while raising awareness about cancer. Stop by AJ Styles Beauty & Barber Salon, 6624 W. North Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22. Also this month, uninsured and underinsured Austin residents can get a free prostate screening at Loretto Hospital.
The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at The Loretto Hospital, 645 S. Central Ave. A panel of experts will share their knowledge, and there will be free screenings and lunch, raffles and prizes.
The free event, sponsored by West Side Men, Austin Weekly News and Loretto Hospital, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30.
The West Side Men’s group hosted last weekend’s event, which featured information from physicians and included free health screenings.
Last week’s event is one of several planned throughout the year to celebrate fathers and their presence in children’s lives.
Women, men and children should meet at noon July 12 at one of 41 corners in Austin.
Loretto Hospital will host the event from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 27.
The demand comes in response to a study of metro areas nationwide showing nearly 52 percent of black men and boys in Chicago are unemployed.
