Austin residents receive free HIV testing

West Siders can check their status the first and third Friday of the month; the next event will be Sept. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Austin Wellness Center.
The Austin Planned Parenthood office, at 5937 W. Chicago Ave., is offering free testing.
Last week’s event brought residents and experts together to discuss treatments and intervention methods they hope could save lives.
A former Austin resident shares her story of being diagnosed in prison, an optional test now required by a new law, which she says saved her life.
Members focus on awareness and prevention education, and promote public services available to those living with the illness.
The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Universal Family Connection’s facility at 1350 W. 103rd St.
