The Rising Sun team beat Greater Saint John in the final game.
The single-elimination tournament will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 28th at Rising Sun Baptist Church. It’s sponsored by the Austin Dream Makers mentoring program, a collaboration of six West Side churches.
The free 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 basketball skills clinic is being held at Marshall High School, 3250 W. Adams St. Youth ages 8 to 18 are welcome to participate. Registration starts at 12:15. Canned goods for a local food pantry will also be collected at the event.
The Nov. 17 basketball game, sponsored by NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and CeaseFire, brought together rival gang members with the hope of ending conflict on the streets.
The merger increases baseball diamonds from one to eight for Austin kids, and players will receive free tutoring, mentoring and ACT prep classes.
The workshop series focuses on building skills, having fun and enforcing healthy habits.
The next game will be played 4 p.m. Dec. 7th at home against Hope.
Seventy players participated on six teams, organized by Austin Safety Net Works.
