Watch free screening of film about urban gardening

The screening of “Can You Dig This” will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd. After the film, there will be a discussion, and there will also be free snacks and a mini-farmers marekt.

Taste the Town is happening this week in Austin

Austin is the latest neighborhood to be included in Taste the Town, an Oak Park initiative designed to support restaurants struggling during the pandemic. This week’s event will be partnering with New Moms, an Austin organization that offers services to young mothers and their children.

Turkey giveaways Monday

Turkeys will be distributed on a first come, first served basis starting at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at 5713 W. Chicago Ave.; and beginning at 12 p.m. at Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St., and 5744 W. Chicago Ave. If you aren’t able to stop by one of the Austin sites during these times, turkeys are being distributed elsewhere throughout the city.

Food giveaway Saturday

Groceries will be distributed – while supplies last – from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept 26 at Helping Hand M.B. Church, 538 N. Lavergne Ave. PPE also will be available. Walk or drive up.

Food giveaway on Thursday

Austin residents can get free produce, dried goods and meat from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at the corner of Leamington and Kinzie. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The event is being organized by Austin Coming Together and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Free food pop-up in Austin Thursday

West Side residents can pick up free food on Thursdays starting May 14 at By The Hand Club For Kids, 415 S. Laramie. The pop-up pantry will be available on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through June 18. It’s one of several being held throughout the city.
