Food delivery service for Austin residents with disabilities extended

The 100 Austin residents participating in the free program will get twice-monthly deliveries for another six months.
Boxes of food are being delivered to the homes of dozens of Austin residents with disabilities through the new program, a partnership between Circle Urban Ministries, the city of Chicago, the Vivery Idea Lab and others.
Amid rising food and gas costs, local groups are helping West Side residents through pop-up pantries and home delivery programs, as well as longstanding food pantry locations.
Tickets for the two-day event being held later this week in Austin and Oak Park are still available.
The local nonprofit will benefit from the upcoming Food Aid Festival, which will be held July 22 and 23 in Austin. The festival will raise funds for organizations addressing food insecurity.
The Thierer Family Foundation has given a $25,000 grant to Dion’s Chicago Dream, an Englewood-based grocery delivery service, to expand food deliveries in Austin.
West Side groups in Austin, including the Austin Garden Collective, Forty Acres and the Austin Community Food Co-Op, are working together to help feed the hungry and support local entrepreneurs.
Stop by 415 S. Kilpatrick Ave from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4. The event is sponsored by the Omega Psi Phi chapters Nu Pi, Rho Mu Mu and Rho; and Gamma Gamma.
Several churches and organizations are distributing food to those in need on Chicago’s West Side and nearby suburbs. No one should go hungry, especially at this time of year.
Groceries will be distributed – while supplies last – from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept 26 at Helping Hand M.B. Church, 538 N. Lavergne Ave. PPE also will be available. Walk or drive up.
