Residents are invited for a community meal before seeing the award-winning documentary “Westside Stories: Paradise Lost” on April 27.
Austin Coming Together will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary at 5:30 p.m. April 13, followed by a discussion. It will be held in the Austin community hub at 5049 W. Harrison.
Seventeen-year-olds and almost 17-year-olds are invited to view the Netflix documentary – which analyzes the criminalization of African Americans and the prison boom – from noon to 3:30 p.m. June 23 at By the Hand, 415 N. Laramie.
The documentary Derek Grace made about Spencer Elementary Technology Academy’s annual College Week can be seen on America ReFramed.
Some of the five-part documentary “The Raising of America” will be shown at 6 p.m. May 12 at Austin Town Hall, followed by discussion and a free dinner.
“Reel Black Love: Black Romance in Film” will be screened 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Austin Town Hall; reservations are required.
The event is Feb. 22 at the Sankofa Cultural Arts Center from 6 to 9 p.m.
The principal said the school has plans to create a violence prevention project on the West Side.
The film, which shows the consequences of violence and focuses on solutions to the community’s problems, will be shown several other times on the West Side.
