Free documentary tonight

Our partners at the Austin Weekly News and the West Side Business Network, in partnership with Bonni McKeown, a blues musician and blogger, tonight will host a free screening of the documentary “Reel Black Love: Black Romance in Film.”

All are invited to come see the movie at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Austin Town Hall, 5610 W. Lake St.

An RSVP is required; call (708) 613-3344 to reserve seats.

Chicago filmmaker Darryl Pitts interviewed over 60 actors, actresses, directors and producers for this 70-minute documentary on black romance in the movies.

It includes clips of favorite films show stars, such as Diahann Carroll, Larenz Tate, Leon (Robinson), Tyler Perry, Cynda Williams and Nia Long.

Pitts will host a discussion after the film, and he’ll introduce the new movie he’s working on with McKeown called “The Rhythm and the Blues,” based on the lives of West Side singer/drummer Larry Taylor and the blues in his family.

Casting calls are being held for several major roles at Chicago’s office of the Screen Actors Guild this week. Click here for more information.
