A shortage of members is not new for the school, which has four vacant positions on its current council.
The current LSC coordinator says members elected next week will have the challenge of recruiting new students for the school that currently has just 390 enrolled and a capacity of 1,600.
AustinTalks and others have requested basic information from CPS, but recent changes may mean all the information won’t be made public in time for elections next week.
Designed by members of the Meetup group, Open Government Chicago, the apps help citizens with tasks such as seeing if potholes have been reported and locating their child’s CPS tier.
The settlement, that will affect Austin’s Nash Elementary, was made to prevent court action against CPS.
They gathered outside the building March 16 to discuss requests for CPS to repair large potholes in the parking lot and renovate or demolish the field house.
The new tool was designed to provide information to parents trying to enroll students at selective schools throughout the city.
Applicants will now have an extra two weeks to submit the required forms, and many positions are still available.
They say CPS left the community out of the process and the decision is not in students’ best interest.
West Side residents sat in classrooms and pitched tents outside the building until the school board agreed to meet with them and discuss plans to overhaul the school.
