West Side United awarded 39 businesses $10,000 grants in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep them afloat. Another round of funding will open in September.
Seniors are invited to learn about preventing COVID and get vaccinated at Westside Health Authority, 5437 W. Division St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 and 27.
Both the two-dose Pfizer and one-dose Johnson & Johnson shots will be offered inside the 40-foot CTA bus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at 5070 W. Adams. Anyone who wants to get vaccinated can walk up that day, and the vaccines are available to all, not just Austin residents. You must be 16 or older, and minors must have a guardian with them to be vaccinated.
There are appointments available for Austin residents to be vaccinated at The Loretto Hospital. Sign up online or call (312) 746-4835. You don’t need to have insurance or a government ID required, but proof of address is required.

All seniors, essential workers and people ages 18 to 64 with underlying health conditions are eligible to register as long as they’re Chicago residents.
At this week’s meeting of the West Side Men’s Network, Loretto President and CEO George Miller pledged the hospital will work to rebuild trust after several instances of COVID-19 doses being improperly vaccinated. Also at this week’s meeting, Austin businessman Malcolm Crawford said new restaurants are coming to the neighborhood.
Several lawmakers held a press conference Saturday to voice support for the beleaguered hospital for the way it has distributed some of its COVID-19 vaccine supply.
Chicago residents 18 and older are eligible to get vaccinated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 28 at Rising Sun M.B. Church, 820 N. Central Ave. Walkups are welcome, or you can register online.
Starting Friday, Austin residents 18 can sign up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at either of two new vaccination centers in Austin.
Residents who are 18 and older can register to get the COVID-19 shots at one of two locations: Amundsen Park and Catalyst Circle Rock Charter School.
