There are several locations on the West Side providing COVID-19 shots and boosters at no cost.
A community vaccination event will be held Jan. 22 at the 15th Police District.
Chicago health officials announced Thursday that there were 5,216 confirmed cases of COVID in the city, the most detected in a 24-hour period. Residents are being urged to get vaccinated, wear their masks and get tested, especially before and after holiday gatherings.
The Chicago Department of Public Health will be giving free COVID-19 and flu shots from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at 4924 W. Chicago Ave. For more information, call the 37th Ward office at (773) 379-0960.
Shots will be administered on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 15 at the West Side high school. Students, their relatives and community members may register in advance, and walk-ins are also being accepted for the free vaccines. The two-dose Pfizer vaccine is the only one currently approved for individuals ages 12 to 17. A parent or guardian is required to be present for anyone under 18. Students 18 and older are also eligible for the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Seniors are invited to learn about preventing COVID and get vaccinated at Westside Health Authority, 5437 W. Division St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 and 27.
The Johnson & Johnson one dose shot is available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday through May 28 in the North Austin Library parking lot, 5724 W. North Ave. Walk-ups are welcome.
At this month’s meeting of the 29th Ward residents aired concerns about vaccine appointments and the alderman shared how the Chicago Police Department is preparing for summer violence. Residents also heard an update about a new grocery store that will be opening in the now-closed Salvation Army building in the 5300 block of West Chicago Avenue.
There are appointments available for Austin residents to be vaccinated at The Loretto Hospital. Sign up online or call (312) 746-4835. You don’t need to have insurance or a government ID required, but proof of address is required.
Make an appointment now to get the COVID-19 shot at one of three West Side locations April 10. Call 773-261-3309 to get scheduled for the 4540 W. Washington, 2622 W. Jackson or 5151 W. Madison sites. All seniors, essential workers and people ages 18 to 64 with underlying health conditions are eligible to register as long as they’re Chicago residents.
