The longtime Chicagoan who’s been like a mother to many turned 100 on Sept. 22.
The public is invited to celebrate the Nobel Peace Prize winner and first president of post-apartheid South Africa Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. Mandela died in 2013.
Ald. Deborah Graham and our partners at the Austin Weekly News attended the celebration at Mayfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre Feb. 27.
The Feb. 12 signing attracted area women looking for practical and spiritual guidance for dating.
Latricia Walker and Collette Carter paid for last weekend’s celebration held at the Austin YMCA. They hope to have a even bigger event on New Year’s Eve.
Nicole Acree’s birthday celebration featured the talents of many. More than 130 attended the event last month.
About 30 people born at the Austin facility attended last weekend’s event.
