The Sweet Homes Chicago project is accepting applications through Aug.15 from designers interested in developing plans.
The Feb. 25 event drew multiple contenders and supporters ready to back their chosen candidates.
They say CPS left the community out of the process and the decision is not in students’ best interest.
The event, with teens from all over the city, runs through the second week of March, with Austin’s West Side Warriors competing again Friday at the Chicago Cultural Center.
The two candidates discussed their views about the position’s responsibility and addressed callers concerns about creating jobs on the West Side.
The forum gave West Side voters an opportunity to learn about contenders whose names will appear on the March 20 ballot.
Austin high school seniors who plan to go to college and major in business or a business-related field are encouraged to apply before the March 16 deadline.
They say the job is important to improve the quality of education for students who attend Chicago Public Schools.
West Side residents sat in classrooms and pitched tents outside the building until the school board agreed to meet with them and discuss plans to overhaul the school.
Low voter registration, water conservation and green infrastructure were some topics discussed.
