The North Avenue Business Association is encouraging Austin high school seniors to apply for its 2012 scholarship program before the March 16 deadline.
The program, launched in 2006, will award two $1,000.00 scholarships to students entering college and majoring in business or a business-related field.
Eligible students must reside in the Village of Oak Park, River Forest or in the City of Chicago neighborhoods’ of Galewood and parts of Austin. Chicago resident boundaries include Armitage/railroad tracks (2000 North) to the north, Division (1200 North) to the south, Austin Boulevard (6000 West) to the east and Harlem (7200 West) to the west.
Applicants must have applied to a four-year accredited college or university, must rank in the upper 20 percent of their class, have a 3.0 GPA and a combined ACT score of 21.
Students will be required to complete an application, write an essay and submit two letters of recommendation.
Financial need, volunteer work and employment history will be considered.
“The business association has grown over the past few years and this is one more opportunity for the members to reach out and give back to the community within our business district,” said North Avenue Business Association President, Wendy Tannenbaum in a press release.
The association’s mission is to enhance the overall commercial district’s image and promote the long-term viability of the business district on North Avenue, located currently between, but not limited to, Harlem Avenue and Austin Boulevard.
The scholarships will be awarded at a presentation at the association’s annual meeting this spring.
