Dwayne Truss hopes to raise at least $100,000 for his campaign. The incumbent, Ald. Chris Taliaferro, plans to seek reelection in February 2019.
Ald. Chris Taliaferro will host the Feb. 7th meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd. Victoria Vann of the Illinois Housing Development Authority will be a guest at the monthly get together.
About 390 residents cast votes last month to decide how to spend Ald. Chris Taliaferro’s $1 million menu money. Sixty-five percent will go to street and alley resurfacing, while $312,500 will be spent on four community projects.
During the 29th Ward’s monthly community meeting, residents questioned whether the newly formed Civilian Office of Police Accountability is truly independent, and some expressed reluctance to file complaints, saying they fear harassment.
Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin, the Peace Makers Coalition and North Austin Council invite West Siders from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5 at 5730 W. Division St. Special guests expected to participate in the event include Ald. Chris Taliafero, Congressman Danny K. Davis and state Rep. Camille Lilly.
West Side artists are working on projects in collaboration with members of the Chicago City Council under the city’s $1 million initiative to install art in all 50 wards.
The civil rights group says agreements must be reached before the development moves forward. Ald. Chris Taliaferro remains supportive of the plan to convert the closed school into a health care campus but agrees more details need to be worked out.
The bid process for the CPS property that has sit vacant for four years sparked intense criticism at a community meeting last week.
Police officers, community groups and others worked on the Ed Bailey-Leola Spann community garden, which is sponsored by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s West Side Community Justice Center.
The first of three meetings being held to discuss which neighborhood projects should be funded with “menu money” is set for June 14 at Amundsen Park. Two other gatherings are planned for Rutherford-Sayre Park and the Columbus Park Refectory later this month.
