Jemese Marks was one of about 1,400 students who graduated this month from City Colleges of Chicago. The Austin resident earned a degree in early childhood education from Malcolm X College. Hundreds of other West Siders attend the college.

Apply for $500 monthly subsidy by Friday’s deadline

May 13 is the deadline for Chicagoans who are 18 or older and have experienced economic hardship due to COVID-19 to apply for the monthly subsidy. A lottery will determine the 5,000 residents who will receive $500 a month for a year.
