About 40 youth and their families participated in the second annual “Fish with a First Responder” held at Columbus Park earlier this month. The event was organized by New Concept Benefit Group and the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance.
The weeks-long exhibit “Finding Ceremony” has been held inside and outside Austin Town Hall the last several weeks. It ends Oct. 22 with a closing event from 2 to 5 p.m. Don’t miss the chance to see the artwork of Austin natives and other artists.
Applications are being accepted for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) until funding is exhausted.
Voters can cast their votes now at one of two downtown sites – 191 N. Clark St. and 69 W. Washington St. And starting Oct. 24, early voting sites in each of the 50 wards will open.

Two Austin-based art organizations offer paid opportunities to residents who pick up trash and help transform it into functional art pieces. Stop by an event Saturday to learn how to make functional plastic objects.
Stop by the Kehrein Center for the Arts, Austin Community Family Center, Fraternite Notre Dame, Austin branch library and Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School. The free event will be held Oct. 15-16.
Residents are encouraged to dine out at restaurants along West Madison Street and West Chicago Avenue through Oct. 16.
The food will be distributed while supplies last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Human Needs Center, 5323 W. Lake.
