Happy Kwanzaa

It’s Kwanzaa time, from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. First celebrated in 1966, Kwanzaa is based on seven principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. Tune in each night from 5 to 6 p.m. on the DuSable Museum of African American History’s Facebook page to celebrate each principle.

Get vaccinated, get tested, stay safe

Chicago health officials announced Thursday that there were 5,216 confirmed cases of COVID in the city, the most detected in a 24-hour period. Residents are being urged to get vaccinated, wear their masks and get tested, especially before and after holiday gatherings.

Toy, coat drive Sunday in Austin

The second annual drive-by giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 19 at 5932 W. Lake St. The event is sponsored by the Upsilon Sigma and Iota Nu Sigma chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
