The state lawmaker said it’s a time to ask why senseless acts of violence keep happening and what can be done to prevent crime.
The recipients were honored July 13 at the annual Excellence in Education Concert and Awards Ceremony.
Tuesday’s emergency meeting allowed the faith leaders to talk about issues contributing to the problems and consider changes and resources that could help curb the violence.
West Side advocate Dwayne Truss invites the community to attend the 6 p.m. July 11 meeting to learn about the current contract negotiations between the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Public Schools.
With locations in both Oak Park and Chicago, visitors can enjoy gardens from 1 to 4 p.m. July 8 for a donation, which will go toward the chuch’s scholarship fund.
The June 23 event was hosted by International Free & Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. & Order of the Eastern Star William V. Banks Grand Lodge and Lillian Gill Grand Chapter members.
The increase in homicides has Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Police Department looking for ways to keep residents safe.
Most of the legislation takes effect immediately.
Food, games and entertainment will be provided.
Truth & Deliverance International Ministries and Corinthian Temple Church of God in Christ are two of about 20 churches participating in Saturday’s event.
