Deadline nearing for teens, young adults to apply for summer jobs

BUILD will hold a bike ride for peace from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 24th. Participants are encouraged to register in advance for the event, which begins at 5100 W. Harrison St. The Chicago Community Alliance will hold “Summer Fest West” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marshall High School, 3300 W. Jackson Blvd. City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin will host the event.
BUILD is celebrating the end of summer camp from 12 to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at 5100 W. Harrison St. State Rep. La Shawn Ford and state Sen. Kimberly Lightfoot are sponsoring the “I count” event to highlight the importance of the 2020 Census, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the 800 block of Lawler.
The free event will be held from 12 to 9 p.m. June 28th and 29th on Harrison Street between Laramie and Lavergne. There will be live entertainment, food, climbing wall and more at this weekend’s celebration, which is being put on by BUILD Chicago.
The annual community play streets event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 28 from 5400 W. Division to 1130 N. Long. There will be a bounce house, basketball, fresh produce sale, food and more.
LunchStop locations operate from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Friday, Aug. 23. Children do not need to be CPS students in order to receive a free lunch. Other Austin locations are also offering breakfast.
The application deadline for One Summer Chicago is May 20. More than 32,000 summer job and internship opportunities will be available to Chicagoans ages 14 to 24 from from July 1 through Aug. 9.
Last week’s “summer of opportunity” event connected young people and families to a range of resources for a successful school year while celebrating summer with a positive community gathering.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository’s food bus will be stopping at the Austin library, 5615 W. Race Ave., from 3 to 3:20 p.m. each weekday from June 25 to Aug. 31 (except July 4).
