The Austin lawmaker urges West Side residents to let him know about family members who should be released from prison to reduce the changes of spreading the coronavirus.
The bill aims to give first-time, non-violent offenders a second chance after completing requirements such as community service and restitution through a two-year probation program.
Residents are encouraged to contact state representatives in support of the bill before March 8.
There are alternatives to simply sending troubled teens to jail, says the Illinois Juvenile Justice Initiative.
