City’s sidewalk program registration opens Monday

Chicago will begin accepting applications for the 2022 shared cost sidewalk program at 6 a.m. Jan. 10. Chicagoans can apply by calling 311; visiting the city’s service request website; or through the free CHI311 mobile app.

Survey seeks to understand stormwater flooding concerns

Local officials want input from Austin residents on how stormwater can be better managed to prevent flooding. West Siders are asked to complete a survey created by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago before the end of November.

West Side residents help decide how $1 million will be spent in the 29th Ward

Sixty percent of the $1 million will go to street repairs and resurfacing in the ward. The rest of the projects to be funded – and listed here in order of popularity – are: street safety upgrades, community gardens, a fitness course at the Austin Town Hall, bike lanes, a mural in Columbus Park and public art at Sayre Language Academy. Nearly 400 residents voted this time around.

About 390 residents cast votes last month to decide how to spend Ald. Chris Taliaferro’s $1 million menu money. Sixty-five percent will go to street and alley resurfacing, while $312,500 will be spent on four community projects.
